Tea Party Staffer Displays Appalling but Predictable Lapse in Netiquette

In case you haven't noticed, gas prices are higher than brachiosaurus balls right now. They're so high, in fact, that one concerned citizen in freshman New York congresswoman Nan Hayworth's district waded into an oxymoronic "civil multi-partisan discussion" on Facebook, oxymoronic, of course, because nobody "discusses" anything on the internet — they shout-type. Hayworth's spokesperson Jay Townsend moderated the proceedings, but, according to a passage snipped by New York Magazine, he did a pretty shitty job of it. When fuel-anxious Tom asked about gas prices, Townsend responded with this:

Listen to Tom. What a little bee he has in his bonnet. Buzz Buzz. My question today … when is Tommy boy going to weigh in on all the Lilly Ledbetter hypocrites who claim to be fighting the War on Women? Let's hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won't abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector.

"Tommy boy" is an awfully pejorative thing to call someone, especially if you're working for a politician and, you know, trying to endear that politician to potential voters. Like Tom, maybe. Hayworth — a tea party Republican — has walked a pretty thin line on women's issues, as she's avowedly, personally pro-choice, yet insists that organizations such as Planned Parenthood shouldn't get federal money for all those insidious women's health clinics they run. Maybe Townsend has uncovered a secret link between the War on Women and gas prices, or maybe he was just having one of those acid-throwing days, but we'll probably have to wait for an official statement from the rest of Hayworth's crack squad to find out for sure.
