Contemplate Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Newest Parenting Dilemma

Maggie Gyllenhaal, star of what's rumored to be an inexplicably boring movie about Victorian-era vibrators, has recently given birth to her second daughter and faces a dilemma common to working parents — balancing parenthood, her career, and her relationship with husband Peter Sarsgaard. Gyllenhaal's particular problem, however, has another wrinkle, which is that she loves to work with Sarsgaard and is already hard-pressed for opportunities to act with him. She fretted over her increasingly busy life to USA Today, saying,

Peter was joking with me the other day. He said, 'How are either of us ever going to work, ever?' We've figured out pretty well how to do it with one. Artistically we're a good combination. I love acting with him. My experience acting with him is on stage, and I love it, but I don't know how we'll do that for a long time. It means neither of us is home to put the kids to bed.

Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard seem like prosperous actors and there are no doubt many other couples who don't have the support of childcare. Then again, these two seem pretty adorable and it's totally not out of line to want them to have all the domestic bliss they want. Besides, Gyllenhaal's right to be concerned about parenting duties. Have you ever seen Orphan? Peter Sarsgaard is probably the worst fictional father ever.
