Church Group Calls for Boycott of The Daily Show Over Hilarious Vagina Manger JokeS

The Catholic League has its rosary in a knot over a joke and graphic on The Daily Show they say objectifies women, marking the one billionth consecutive time The Catholic League has failed to see the irony in complaining about objectification of women when they can't see women as anything more than walking wombs. So what was the horribly offensive joke that pushed the God Squad over the edge?

During a segment called The Battle for the War on Women, Jon Stewart poked fun at Fox News histrionics over every perceived slight ("War on starches!" "War on Christmas!" "War on Halloween!" etc) and their reticence to call what's happening to women in America a "war." In order for women to get Fox News to call what's happening to women's bodies a "war," reasoned Stewart, perhaps what women should do is put mangers in their vaginas, so it's more Christmassy down there. And then, a graphic featuring an image of a manger scene strategically placed over a vagina flashed onto the screen, where it remained in its vaginal horror for several seconds.

Well, that's where Catholic League President Bill Donohue lost his shit. In a release today, he accused the mainstream media of covering up some massive scandal we should all be keening over. He writes,

We are asking Stewart to apologize. If he does not, we will mobilize Protestants, Jews, Mormons and Muslims to join us in a boycott of his sponsors. Moreover, we will not stop with a boycott; there are other things that can be done to register our outrage. We are prepared to spend the money it takes to make this a nationwide issue, and we are prepared to stay the course. Tomorrow we will have something definitive to say, one way or the other.

Offended by the presence of a religious figure in front of a vagina? Has Bill Donohue ever looked at a statue of the Virgin Mary? That chick's constantly standing in front of gaping vaginal cave entrances. Half the time she looks like a vagina.

Somehow I don't see this huffy boycott attempt really putting a dent in The Daily Show's viewership, because most people offended by vaginal imagery or borderline crude jokes involving religion probably aren't watching, anyway. I'm beginning to think that church groups have worse senses of humor than conservatives think feminists have.

Jesus whined.
