When we think of plastic surgery, we tend to think first of nose jobs, but it turns out the biggest new trend in modifying one's face is getting chin implants. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons just released new statistics that show that chimplants, as they're charmingly known, are the fastest growing procedure among all major demographics. Overall, they experienced a 71 percent increase in 2011. ASPS President Dr. Malcolm Z. Roth has the disturbing explanation as to why there's a sudden interest in boosting the presence of one's chin:
The chin and jawline are among the first areas to show signs of aging. People are considering chin augmentation as a way to restore their youthful look just like a facelift or eyelid surgery. We also know that as more people see themselves on video chat technology, they may notice that their jawline is not as sharp as they want it to be. Chin implants can make a dramatic difference.
Video chat? Video chat. Are you fucking kidding me? It is a universal truth that all people look hideous in video chats. Even fresh faced adolescents look crappy. Honestly, the lighting, the camera angle, the quality of the camera. It's a perfect storm. No one should be allowed to order up surgery based on impressions they form of themselves while on Skype. Damn you, Facetime! You're ruining everything. It's bad enough we've got to put makeup on before we make a stupid phone call. Now we have to get our chins done before our next videoconference? Ugh.
