Much unlike many a magazine editor who recommends you buy all sorts of crap that they most likely got for free, your Jezebel staff doesn't get jack shit (other than books, unsolicited). And that's how it should be. But on our own time, in our personal lives, we still buy stuff. So this is Worth It, our recommendation of random things that we've actually spent our own money on. These are the things we buy regularly or really like, things we'd actually tell our friends about. And now we're telling you.
If time management is as a concern for you and your makeup application, then I highly suggest Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. It comes in a little pot that you apply with a separate brush. When they say "long-wear" they really mean it. I'm talking fall-asleep-in-your-makeup-and-still-look-decent-the-next-morning kind of long-wear. It means this stuff is perfect for a night out on the town, and will still make you look halfway human when you're hung over at brunch the next day.
However, I do think that "gel" is kind of a misnomer as I tend to think of "gel" as, well, gelatinous with something of a see-thru appearance. The consistency of Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is actually more like a paste: More liquid-y than a pencil and more solid than liquid liner. Using a brush gives you the precision for either a lighter or more dramatic look, while the creaminess of the product makes application quick and (fairly) easy. You can actually watch a tutorial of how to use Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner to create that kind of Mad Men winged-eye look.
