Gah. Just when you thought Gabrielle Giffords' loving husband Mark Kelly couldn't be any more perfect—he is an astronaut for Christ's sake—he goes and ups the ante. It's just been announced that he is writing a kids book about a mouse who goes up into space. Commence "aww-ing" sequence now.
The book, which Simon & Schuster is publishing in October, will be called Mousetronaut: A Partially True Story—Mousetronaut?! Come on, Kelly. You're really doing a number on us with all this sweetness. He says he's had the idea for years, and was inspired by his own space travels:
On my first space shuttle flight, we had 18 mice on board as experiments. And 17 of them, as soon as we got into zero gravity, stayed latched on to the side of the cage. But one of them seemed comfortable through the whole mission, like he was enjoying it.
So the story will center on a little mouse who gets chosen for a space mission, and then "While in space, the astronauts are busy with their mission when only the smallest member of the crew can save the day." Okay, we gotta stop there before we start squee-ing and can't stop. If anyone needs us, we'll all be busy pretending Mark Kelly is our astronaut husband.
