That's the premise of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, an apocalyptic romcom crashing into theaters this summer. The title seems to be based on a song by Chris Cornell, and the plot unfolds thusly: An asteroid named Mathilda is heading towards Earth, and people are trying to figure out what the fuck to do with their final days. Steve Carrell plays Dodge, a man looking for the one who got away, and Keira Knightley plays Penny, his neighbor who decides to help him.
The flick was written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, who penned the script for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (and found herself in the gossip pages recently, when she hung out in Italy with Ashton Kutcher at Christmastime). It's unclear from the trailer whether Dodge and Penny end up together, but it's notable that the stars are a 49-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, because even as the world ends, no one wants to see ladies over 30 do anything. Still, chances are, it ends with a bang: Either of the asteroid or the sex variety.
