Victoria's Secret model Kylie Bisutti has recently given up her modeling contract because she feels that modeling for the company clashes with her Christian faith. While it may be easy to make fun of Bisutti, who won her position during the 2009 Victoria's Secret Model Search, for her "my body belongs to my husband" nonsense, it's difficult to harangue someone for setting their own limit of how much or how little they choose to be sexualized. Bisutti was put in a position that she thought she wanted, but proved to be uncomfortable for her. She took herself out of that position. Good for her.
What's perhaps more interesting is Good Morning America's seeming reverence for the Victoria's Secret Angel. In the interview with Bisutti, George Stephanopoulos calls it the "summit of modeling," which, going into New York Fashion Week, is a bit of an insult to other fashion houses. Has Anna Wintour or Grace Coddington ever sat front row at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show? Does the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show even matter outside the plot of an Entourage episode? It doesn't seem like it, so why GMA is falling over themselves to prove what an institution Victoria's Secret is beyond me.
