The Race Away from Susan G. Komen for the Cure began last week when the charity defunded Planned Parenthood, and it looks like it's not ending any time soon. The latest entity to distance itself from the embattled breast cancer charity/marketing machine? Anchor Bay Entertainment, a producer of exercise videos and corporate sponsor of Komen.
According to New York Magazine, Anchor Bay is behind such famously tight muscled and tight clothes wearing peddlers of endorphins as Billy Blanks, the Pussycat Dolls, and Leslie Sansone, and since 2008, the company has donated $1 from the proceeds of each DVD sale to Komen. A source told the magazine that the total annual donation to the charity was in the six figure range. But now, thanks to questionable executive decisionmaking skills and an embarrassing series of public lies, that relationship may be in jeopardy.
