Much unlike many a magazine editor who recommends you buy all sorts of crap that they most likely got for free, your Jezebel staff doesn't get jack shit (other than books, unsolicited). And that's how it should be. But on our own time, in our personal lives, we still buy stuff. So this is Worth It, our daily recommendation of random things that we've actually spent our own money on. These are the things we buy regularly or really like, things we'd actually tell our friends about. And now we're telling you.
My hair exists in a perpetual state of bed head. When the weather is moderately humid or in the hour after it air-dries, it's also awesome— big, curly, very Teen Witch— but during the winter when everything is dry, shit gets weird and suddenly I have a head full of half waves and static. Because I'm not the type to wake up hours early to give myself a blowout (I'm the type who consistently gives up basic hygiene like showering for the opportunity to sleep an extra 20 minutes), I've had to come up with an alternative solution to keep me from looking like I just climbed out of an open-top convertible.
Enter Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray! This is an excellent, albeit slightly pricey, hair product that will give you beachy waves and volume all year round. I probably go through roughly a bottle a month (you would probably take longer— I'm a bit of a fiend), but it's entirely worth it for the boost it gives my roots and the sexy disheveled-ness it gives my curls. Better yet, it's not typical hairspray, so you get to skip the choking fumes and stiff texture that our Designing Women foremothers had to suffer through.
Cheaper brands have their own versions of surf spray, but none of the ones I've tried have measured up to B&B's— probably because theirs is made with real ocean products like kelp and algae. It also makes your head smell good and your hair taste like salt. Basically, it's the next best thing to a day at the beach.
