Romney Plans To Make PBS As Dumb As The History Channel

Last month Mitt Romney said that he's a fan of public broadcasting, but that won't stop him from defunding it if he's elected president. He suggested that PBS should be entirely ad-funded, saying, "We're not going to kill Big Bird, but Big Bird's going to have advertisements, all right?"

Yesterday PBS CEO Paula Kerger illustrated the flaw in Romney's plan: We've already seen networks like A&E and the History Channel attempt to provide PBS-like content with commercial funding. Ultimately they were forced to dumb down their shows, "And programming like ‘Pawn Stars' and ‘American Pickers' is not the same as ‘American Experience' and Ken Burns," says Kerger. If Romney wins, expect your kids to start asking lots of questions about Big Bird's sudden focus on Hitler, aliens, and the apocalypse.
