Science Could Help You Grow A Mink Coat On Your Head

Well, maybe. According to new research, the same process that makes animals grow thicker coats in winter could be used to help cure human baldness. That is, therapies could target not just hair follicles themselves, but tissues around the follicle that could respond to environmental cues. Says study author Dr. Cheng-Ming Chuong, "To deal with the hair growth, you not only try to help the stem cell [in the follicle], but you can improve the 'soil,' like — You put a tulip bulb in a nicer soil, you will grow a nicer hair." Tulips growing out of a dude's head would be nice, but we'd like to see a sassy leopard coat or maybe a fashionable mink too.
