@ineffable.me: I don't have a problem with people vacationing in these countries. Let's face it: They can use the tourist income, anyway. But what I dislike is the juxtaposition of western beauty ideals, which are informed by western wealth (high-priced designer clothes, white faces, and thin-ness that is chosen rather than forced upon someone) with crippling third world poverty. The beauty of these places notwithstanding, it strikes me as callous to focus on that aspect while largely ignoring the sheer amount of suffering that goes on. Especially when the primary purpose of it is to sell clothes to very, very rich people.
