David Fincher's version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo doesn't hit theaters until December, but the red band trailer has been "leaked" (read: recorded on a cameraphone, possibly by a theater employee?) early. NB: This is the red band trailer, meaning that it's not necessarily SFW, due to a millisecond of boob.
This is the second film based on the international best-selling novel (the Swedish original starred Noomi Rapace), and the promo is a series of smash-cuts, with Lisbeth Salander — played by Rooney Mara — making only very brief appearances. There are way more shots of snow and Daniel Craig than there are of the titular Girl. Oh, we see her back, her neck, her torso and a little side boob, but blink and you'll miss her face. It could be that keeping her shadowy, elusive and mysterious is the point. We're intrigued by what we don't know, right? Or it could be that getting a male audience interested in (or at least, not alienated by) your movie (with the world Girl in the title) means making a fast-paced, dude-centric trailer. Either way, this clip succeeds in making us want to see more. And if the whole thing kind of feels kind of like a Nine Inch Nails video, well, that's because Trent Reznor recorded a cover of the Led Zeppelin classic, "The Immigrant Song," with Karen O growling about the "hammer of the gods."
