Most dance tracks usually lack a message beyond "I throw my hands up in the air sometimes" and wearing the latest "brands, brands, brands." The last time I got into something dancey with a message, Deee-Lite was involved. But as the folks at PopWrap note, between Katy Perry's "Firework," Pink's "Raise Your Glass" and Gaga's brand new track, pop music is getting all self-help on us. "Born This Way" sets out to be an anthem for the downtrodden and bullied.

Some lyrics for you:

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, chola descent
You're lebanese, you're orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause baby you were Born This Way

No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

Even if you find this kind of cause-dropping a leeeetle pedantic and slightly holier-than-thou, the fact that kids around the world — from gay bars to guido-filled clubs — will be shimmying and fist-pumping to a song celebrating "transgender life" is pretty notable. Because above all, the track is highly danceable, cementing its inevitable popularity. The beat is almost a march, leading an army of misfits into an epic vogue battle, perhaps. Speaking of "Vogue"… PopWrap asks, "is it me, or is the beat and tone of this song almost identical to Madonna's 'Express Yourself?'" It's not just you. But nevermind about that. Let's dance.
