Easy A, a modern take on The Scarlet Letter starring Emma Stone, is set to hit theaters in September. This teaser for the film, featuring Stone dancing around to a musical birthday card, is goofy but promising.

Yes, it hits on the old "I'm singin' around the house! And in the shower!" rom-com cliche, Stone is such a likable actress that she pulls it off. And the plot of the film: "a clean-cut high school student relies on the school's rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing," sounds like it fits into the exaggerated Mean Girls/Heathers view of the insane politics of being a girl in high school, which means it could be a pretty great (and highly quotable) film if executed properly. (There's also a character named Jezebel, apparently.)

In any case, it's hard not to root for a comedy that gives a spotlight to so many actresses and doesn't revolve around a wedding or baby panic: it has been six years since we met the likes of Regina George: perhaps Stone's Olive Penderghast and crew will be the ones who actually, you know, make fetch happen.
