Lindsey Vonn's "Sexualized" Cover • Your Salad Probably Contains PoopS

Lindsey Vonn appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated in a pose that some say represents all that is wrong with the media coverage of female athletes. Women Talk Sports says:

"When females are featured on the cover of SI, they are more likely than not to be in sexualized poses and not in action–and the most recent Vonn cover is no exception." However, on the other side of the debate is Chris Chase at Yahoo: "The pose at least resembles the tuck stance skiers like Vonn take when barrelling down the hill. It's exaggerated, of course, but not gratuitously so." What say you? • An investigation by the Consumers Union has found that bagged salads labeled "pre-washed" or "triple-washed" had high levels of fecal bacteria. Nearly 40% of the samples tested contained bacteria associated with fecal contamination, and organic produce fared no better than the regular stuff. Although incredibly gross, the bacteria does not pose a health risk, experts say. • A very funny video was spotted over at Slate in which Andrew Bouve re-imagines the Super Bowl as directed by Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Jean-Luc Godard and Werner Herzog. We're naturally digging the Anderson segment. • Five bikini baristas from Washington have been accused of offering erotic shows in exchange for cold, hard cash. Undercover officers captured images of the women licking whipped cream of each other's crotches, an activity that is not only sure to give you a nasty yeast infection but can also apparently be construed as prostitution. • Inspired by the news that Bo, a language from the Andaman islands, has officially "died," the Guardian covers the phenomenon of endangered languages (there are up to 7,000 of them) and why we should care: "The death of a language is the most obvious symptom of an acute human crisis: the loss of a store of wisdom, and a sense of community," argues David Shariatmadari. • A new adoption bill in Arizona proposes that preference be given to married parents. The offensive law would prohibit adoption by a single parent unless there were no married couples available. • A cranky school head in the UK has banned mothers from wearing pajamas when dropping their children off at school. He calls the offending mothers "slovenly and rude" and has asked that they dress up to "avoid embarrassment." If he thinks that's bad, I'd like to show him my work uniform... • Sargent Wilson was one of three women to compete at the All Iraq Combatives Tournament. Although she didn't win, she held her own with the male fighters. And here is a video of Wilson kicking some ass.Valentine's Day is not exactly my favorite holiday (it's about as obnoxious as New Year's Eve) but these hip hop V-Day cards are pretty excellent. You can't go wrong with the timeless message: "Lick Me Like a Lollipop." •
