If eyes are the window to the soul, apparently in a recession we like 'em blinded, shaded, curtained and bedecked - and as expensively as possible. While lipstick, once a Necessity, is on the wane, the market for eye accessorizing is booming. Think pricey lash extensions, elaborate eye makeup, vibrating mascaras, "eyelash conditioner," fur falsies, and permanent makeup. And that's to say nothing of the brow industry! It seems like if there's a risk of blindness, we'll buy it! Can belladonna be far behind? The Observer suggests the "doe-in-the-headlights" look is probably appropriate to the current mentality; we're thinking everyone's probably trying to compensate for sleepless nights. [Observer]
