Being a perv in Japan just got a little bit harder. The new iPhone 3G in Japan has a special feature that can only be found on phones in that country: the "shutter" sound when taking a picture cannot be muted or turned off during silent mode. The reason? The sound is meant to deter men from taking upskirt photos of woman, which has become more popular as camera phones develop higher-resolution cameras. This is not a feature that is unique to iPhones; all cell phones sold in Japan make a noticeable sound when a picture is being taken, even on silent mode.
