Researchers at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, in cooperation with Chilean winemaker Aurelio Montes, have found that people's impression of how good a wine tastes can be improved when paired with the right... music. Montes himself plays Gregorian chants to improve the quality of his wine, but the researchers have come up with a list of supposedly good musical pairings to improve one's wine experience. If you're drinking a Cabernet, they recommend listening to Honky-Tonk Woman; Syrah afficianados are supposed to stick to Orinoco Flow (gag); Merlot drinkers are supposed to catch up with Eva Cassidy; and Chardonnay drinkers should contemplate Tina Turner. We'd like to add that a lovely California Petite Sirah goes quite nicely with a little Kate Nash and vitriol, but we're happy to try it again next weekend to make sure.
