Remember yesterday's post about Wayne Bent, aka Michael Travesser, the prophet of a cult called the Lord Our Righteousness Church who was arrested on charges of child molestation? Well last night, the National Geographic Channel aired a documentary about Travesser and the LORs, and lordy lordy, it was bonkers. This first clip shows Michael with "Healed," one of the minors he is accused of molesting. (Michael, who in cult lore is the son of God, said that God told him to lie naked with seven virgins.) Healed's parents no longer live on the cult's compound, and although her parents have begged her to leave, Healed insists on living with "God's son." Her crazed chuckle is enough to chill anyone with a pulse. After the jump, a second clip showing two other barely-legal LORs explaining the elation they felt at lying naked with Michael, doing "God's will".

let's hope wayne bent (really?) doesn't get any manson-esque ideas about offing people.
One can only hope that God is actually not amused, though why he hasn't bombed the compound with fire and brimstone is beyond me. This guy is another high-order wacko who needs to pay for his crime, and cannot hide behind being a "messiah."
God told him to lie naked with seven vigins? Damn.
When I read the old testament in cathecism, all I got was a) Don't cut your forelocks and b)Don't jank it.
Holy shit - I saw this. How FUCKED was the way that douchebarge asshat psycho convinced those girls to get naked with him, b/c it's what God wants, and since he's God's messenger on earth....well, it just makes sense to do it.
And then how he's banging around with his son's wife (and other dude's wives) and they all justify it to themselves and try to convince themselves that it's ok.
And his little women who followed him around like puppies...the way they looked at him was so creepy.
GMA showed a clip of that documentary recently - it was so, so disturbing.
This people were so mislead - Jesus does not need to have a physical relationship with you. This should be a sign that maybe the person you're following is a nutjob.
all I'm seeing is Will Forte as Ken Mortimer (a.k.a. "The Falconer")....
@Charlotte Corday: Ding ding ding! You beat me to it. I call for an air drop of 100 copies of "Helter Skelter" on the compound.
If nothing else, it'll give them something to do while they're all in bed naked, twiddling their thumbs.
@NefariousNewt: I have to believe that there are some things that make God sad, this is most definitely one of them.
There is nothing I hate more than when someone manipulates the "word of God" on such a large scale and hurts people in "His name."
Do you ever feel like women in the world are just hunted for sport?
I know someone who escaped the "Children of God" cult and her stories are frightening. Anyone who brings their children into this atmosphere should receive lobotomies.
I had a hard time sleeping last night because of that doc. I was laying there and wondering to my husband about how can a girl be so totally bamboozled to hook up with some total psycho and ignore every modicum of common sense tossed her way.
He just shrugged and said "well, you married me, so I don't know what to tell you".
@dr.funke: Yeah, I can kinda see the resemblance...Although, when I think of Will Forte, I then think of MacGruber and that's a whole world of funny.
However, this culty dude is such a creep and preying on and manipulating the weak is completely despicable and disgusting.
I so told all of you about this line yesterday! Wasn't this show amazing?
I thought the worst thing was when he slept with his son's wife.
I couldn't watch the entire thing - its so disgusting.
@BitterSugar: This = These.
Sorry.
@myrtlebeachbum: That's not all they're twiddling.
so. fucking. creepy.
This was a Channel 4 (UK) documentary months ago; they seem to have dubbed it with an American accent. My friends and I watched it; it was SO scary.
At the end, the end of the world doesn't happen (obviously), and the guy just re-sets the date. The saddest part of it is his son, who has to let his dad sleep with his wife and clearly isn't totally committed to the ideas of the cult. His son had this permanent melancholy about him, it was really painful to watch.
Oh, man, that was such an interesting documentary. I liked the part when he was explaining why he "consummated" with his daughter-in-law, while his poor devoted son just had to listen to the story and act like it didn't make him sick. When asked if they only had sex that one time, Bent laughed and said, "You know the answer to that. Does a groom only consummate with his wife once?" Creepy, creepy dude.
Oh, and the part where he likened himself laying naked with virgins to a doctor giving a pelvic exam. "MDs stick there fingers in women's sex parts to give pap smears or whatever!"
I mean, I know how cults work, but I still can't believe that this guy walks up to people and is like "I'm the son of God, and I must molest your daughters" and they're just like "awesome, what a great idea!" It boggles my mind and makes me really sad.
Yeah...question...were any of those virgins male?
@summerwheatley: The women had this glazed over look in their eyes. If I had to imagine what a brainwashed person looked like, that would be it.
How she kept saying when lying naked with him that 'God was in her'...that was just a poor choice of words. Icky.
@ExtensionOfBob: That's exactly what I said yesterday! They were all pretty attractive young women/girls. Surprise, surprise, surprise.
Eh, I dunno. What if he is the new Messiah? There was another guy who had some pretty wacky ideas, and people didn't like him very much. His name? Jesus. And he's in the book.
Oh, right, God wants skeevy old men to have sex with naive teenagers, how could we have missed that? I hope he goes to prison and henceforth will be known for doing "Bubba from Cell Block D's will."
That first clip is frightening. The way the kids look at him and how he's going to respond to each question just shows they have no mind of their own - completely brainwashed. *shudder*
@TheUptightMidwesterner: Your husband is funny.
I think if you've never felt loved or special, or worthy, and suddenly someone tells you you're chosen and beautiful, you can be convinced to do just about anything.
@TheUptightMidwesterner: Your husband sounds awesome.
@HeatherNumber1: I don't recall the part where Jesus has sex with the children of his followers. What gospel is that in?
The 15-year old is a minor, no? Don't her parents have some legal authority to remove her from that compound? Am I missing something?
I keep being distracted from the creepy horrible-ness of all of this by the fact that he looks like a hairy Michael Palin. And then I wonder why K-k-k-kenny is wandering around with naked brainwashed virgins.
@AbbyNormal: How dare you question the lord!
@AbbyNormal: In the local system, he'll be treated as a hero.
Oh god, the shot of the girl in the second video plunging the sponge into the ice cube tray is a little... suggestive.
@HeatherNumber1: Except Jesus was inclusive, not exclusive. That's how you can tell that none of these nuts is even remotely the Messiah. First, Jesus very rarely played up the "Son of God" angle, and second, his teachings show that he was trying to give all people hope and bring them together, no matter what their station in life. This guy is doing none of this -- he has rejected society and does nothing to be inclusive.
@LadyNo Fondles Sweaters: And he told his son to blame God because God made him screw his daughter-in-law. WHAT?
The 3 kids in the swing act like they're 5 years old. Everything is so hilarious, hee hee hee! I don't see how they could ever be integrated into society.
@AbbyNormal: It's in a special book of the bible that has disappeared. But by lying with some virgins, it will appear to you. Duh!
If Healed is a minor and her parents have left, how is she still there? Can't her parents call the police to forcefully bring her home? Or is she no longer underage? bad, bad parenting all around.
My sister and I watched this the other day. Creepy.
@AbbyNormal: I don't recall the part where Jesus has sex. Period.
@dr.funke: Two of the children did leave the compound to live with their mother who had left the cult. One of them at least refused to eat until her mom let her go back. The mom was interviewed and was crying and clearly upset, but you could tell she didn't have much of a backbone. I mean, she got into the cult in the first place, so I don't think she had strong enough will to assert authority over her kids.
Healed, the one with the line about brainwashing, left for a while and came back, too.
The Bible teaches you that God already loves you. There is only one Son of God. You do not need to be naked in front of God - or Jesus - to have him accept you. If you accept God/Christ/Whomever you choose, and try your hardest to live your life accordingly and to how you feel is appropriate and is right for you, you are loved. This is fucking blasphemy. This is fucking sick and disgusting, but that part should go without being said.
@AbbyNormal: I haven't read my Bible in a while, but I'm pretty sure it's not in there. I don't remember Jesus getting any directives from the home office to that effect either.
@dr.funke: They did remove her at some point, and I think maybe she came back. The blonde girl in the first clip left for a little while but then she went on a hunger strike so her mom let her return to the cult.
