A recent survey by USA Swimming has revealed that 60 percent of black children have not learned how to swim, which is nearly double the amount of white children who haven't. USA Swimming is hoping to lower the rates of minority drownings and encourage African-Americans to swim with Make A Splash, a program which encourages water safety and swimming education. A representative for USA Swimming says that these low rates mirror the racist stereotype that blacks "cannot swim" (bullshit about "lack of buoyancy") and that many minority children view swimming as a "white sport."
