I do like, however, that this was tagged "miracles." That makes me happy.

What's with all the really bizarre babies from India stories lately? First it was that cute little girl born with eight legs. Then, it was the woman who went to pee and her baby popped out, Now it's the baby with two faces.

Sweet wounded Jesus.

That's not nearly as creepy as the multi-limbed baby a couple of months ago.

That's really disarming. I really like the villagers' reaction. I wish our society responded to mutations like they're gifts from God instead of curses! And I hope the baby (babies? are they conjoined twins) survive into adulthood.

@thenwemadeout: oh ew, yes. His skin turned all bark-like. Bodies are insane, this is why I try and mess with mine as little as possible.

@Emily: I find that totally wonderful as well. Here, they'd put her in an iron lung or something terrible, but India's all "sweet! She must be a goddess! Let's give her pancakes!"

I just hope little Miss is healthy and functioning with her unusual countenance(s). I'm glad that she was born there, where it was taken as a beautiful blessing.

That poor child. But at least people are regarding her as a miracle and not a freak. If she were born here some crazies would probably think she was the devil or try to exploit her.

awwww... I still think about Lakshmi (the 8 limbed baby). I wonder what this child's life is going to be like...

it's a good thing they are treating the baby well instead of freaking out or killing it or something. not that Indians would necessarily do that, but it makes me think of how many ancient peoples would just expose babies that were born different. yay for a miracle baby!

@LoveNoelG: POMERANIAN. HA! Too much. But yeah, that guy. Phew, that's a tough one. There were so many crazy human body things a few months back. There was also a guy who had a tumor removed from his face that was like 90 lbs. and he kept falling over backward once they took it off. I will never complain about my body again...

@Emily: Sadly, I doubt the baby will. With all the wiring in your head, I'd think there will be some sort of damage.

I love that they treat the baby as a special blessing. As hard as this must be for the family, at least their child is being honored instead of ridiculed.

I wonder if there is one or two brains? Also, if each set of eyes, noses, and mouths work. Thanks for doing some investigating Fox News! grr.

@Muffyn: I think about her all the time and wonder the same thing. I have not heard anything since her surgetry a couple months ago.

@misssgolightly: I think babies like that are probably born in the US, too (albeit much less frequently). The difference is that here I suspect they get whisked away to a backroom OR and "fixed" as soon as possible.

I'm genuinely conflicted about this.

While I think the way this child and Lakishma (whoa, prob bad SP) are examples of the beauty that can be found in humans - being treated as a miracle rather than a monster - I am deeply concerned about what this says about the state of health and access to healthcare in India.

To them they made be gods re-incarnated, but does this mean the mother did not receive ANY pre-natal health care? Did they not see this in an ultrasound, or did the mother have no ultra-sound?

And what about the child's health? I know some ppl didnt want Lakishma to have the leg operation; well this child be okay?

Unrelated sidenote: that article Moe linked about the two-faced kitten is the fucking WEIRDEST thing ever - and not even because of the kitten! The dude wanted to sell the kitten body on eBay so he could use the profits to make a GUN CANNON!? Nothing says wackjob like using eBay to fund your backwoods weapons development.

That is interesting because both faces are so gosh darned cute! What if it were an ugly baby with two ugly faces? Or one cute face and one ugly face?

@LadyNo: I'm thinking it might be something seen in an ultrasound? The medical care is poorer in many area of Indian, so they don't 'catch' it early.

And in America the doctors would probably suggest termination.

A woman I work with found out her baby has birth defects. Sad.
