China is undergoing a sexual revolution! And just like with its Industrial Revolution, everything is happening reallyreallyfast. Studies estimate the percentage of citizens who have in premarital sex has escalated from 15% when the Western media outlets first declared a sexual revolution to be underway to 60-70% today. And the kids learned to shake off the whole "courtship" construct quickly too, electing mostly to have random unattached hookups at by-the-hour motels with people they meet at bars with subtle innuendo-y names like "One Night Stand." Some of them even blog about it! Explains One Night Stand patron Chu Yanyang: "If when we eat I always put food on your plate for you and one day I don't, then you might get mad and fuss at me. These little fights are really hard. So you might have a one-night stand. It's just so much easier." Totes. The only drawback is that most kids are still afraid to say "sex" in public, sex education is a rarity, and now that officials are rethinking the whole One Child Policy, abortion is no longer free. A walk-in abortion costs $140 at the Haidian Maternal and Child Health Hospital, a large public hospital in northwest Beijing. Too pricey? Skip the anesthesia and the price falls to $55.
