Does pulling lipstick from archives mean someone's wearing a 50-year old coat of gloss? Ew.
I'll go to Spain to buy their "Hourglass" size, nothing has ever fit me in the waist and the hips unless it was made in the 40's.
Poor Lou Lou, I bet she misses the 90's.
I love it when Revlon puts out their retro-shades, Cherries in the Snow, anyone?
Yes to Spain. I can't wait to see what clothing for pear-shaped bodies looks like. Has there ever been such a thing?
My 15-year-old self is pining for some hush puppies right now. To wear with my flannel and Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt.
@sjct: Yeah, it's called Making Your Own.
Note to M.I.A: Kevin Federline was overheard saying the same thing. Still feel so grand?
Whatever man. I can't hate on M.I.A. because, well, I just can't. Her music is so fit for dancing, and that's my excuse.
@so5minutesago: Our 15 year old selves would have been friends. Except I would be wearing red vinyl Airwalks and an SP t-shirt.
@hortense: I had several pairs of Airwalks. Loved them. None as cool as the vinyl ones, though. What happened to fashion that was actually comfortable? Let's go back to that.
cylinder? i've never heard of someone having the exact same bust, waist, and hip measurements.
When I am Prez, I will outlaw the Slim Fast bare tummy commercials, along with anything Cialis-related. I can't deal.
@hortense: tell me you had a "zero" tshirt you wore all the time like i did.
@sjct: kind of. it's called the a-line skirt...well, that and most of the cinched waist-full skirted dresses from the 50's.
why. is. my. name. not. loulou.
damn my parents.
@AAES: My first bpoyfriend has a zero shirt and wore airwalks. Ahhh, the days before it was cool for guys to let their ass hang out of their pants were not so bad.
Remember JNCOS? cringe.
@Reluctant Financier: Well yes, thank goodness they still sell old Laura Ashley patterns with high waists and full skirts and my Mama made sure I could sew. But, I was hoping someone would invent a new disguise that doesn't make me look pregnant.
@AAES: Oh lord, I had the "Just Say Maybe" one, and a tour one from the Infinite Sadness tour. My boyfriend at the time wore the Zero one allll the time.
What happened to Billy Corgan? Seriously. I couldn't even bring myself to listen to the latest "Pumpkins" album. No James, no thank you.
@spectatertot: I am a rejoicing Cylinder... kinda anyway.
@so5minutesago: I still wear Airwalk slip-ons. They make great, comfortable sneakers and they're cheap. I'm 25 now, but my footwear hasn't changed much since I was a teen.
@spectatertot: Hi. My name's Beep. Nice to meet you.
@BeAgrestic: awww jesus! I meant "boyfriend","had", and "their." I'm too out of it for Jezebel today.
@hortense: at least Billy isnt going around the lower east side makin out with all the young girls and being generally sleazy *cough*jamesiha*cough*
@ineffable.me: This is true. But don't go on a reunion tour with Zwan and tell me it's the Smashing Pumpkins.
@BeAgrestic: haha jncos. i forgot about those.
@hortense: yeah, some of the stuff on "adore" and "machina" was pretty good, but i couldn't get into it much. i never really bothered to listen to anything he made after that.
Dude, I thought M.I.A. was getting out of the music business because it "wasn't enough" for her. I was like, "wow I wonder what she's going to do instead."
*coughs*
Oh wow. I seriously get so angry and defensive when anyone says anything against MIA. She is a fucking deity.
Whatever. I still love her.
@hortense: hahaha. I went to see Zwan solely for a sight of Billy Corgan. Oh it was worth it.
@AAES: unpopular opinion: i LOVE adore. a couple of months ago i decided that i wanted to listen to machina and i downloaded it and its not that bad. i didnt really give it the time of day back then, but its sort of growing on me now.
@ineffable.me: Me too! Adore is the dark horse. It's such a pretty record. So sad, too.
Yeah, M.I.A. is the shit and used to room with Luella Bartley, who I LOVE.
Download the Diplo set at Pitchfork. Trust!
@AAES: I had a zero shirt! I got it when I went to see SP in concert. Unfortunately, because I couldn't do anything without being publicly mocked, when I wore it to school the next day I had loads of boys saying smart things like, "My shirt says one." God, I hated high school.
@ineffable.me: i did used to love me some billy corgan. when i was sixteen, the pumpkins came to my town (this was after that auf der mar chick replaced darcy and jimmy was back in the band). anyway, i couldn't get tickets because it was a small venue and they sold out in like 20 minutes or something. But i went to an autograph signing they had at this record store, and billy actually put me on a list to get into the show and it rocked and it was the most awesome night of my life!
@ineffable.me: i actually think i like machina more than adore. but mellon collie will always be my fave pumpkins album.
Yesterday, I was walking through this really icy length of sidewalk and when I made it to the other side without falling I turned to my friend and said, 'I owned that shit!' (I have a chronic falling-on-ice problem.)
God, I need a reality check. Sometimes my ego gets too big!
@Archetype:
And she got into music because Peaches told her to. Bad ass.
@AAES: I still have my 'Zero' shirt!
Maybe I shouldn't have admitted that.
@AAES: holy fuck that sounds awesome. That's so crazy and lucky that he'd do such a thing. I love that lil bald dude so much.
@hortense: yeah, maybe that's why I like it so much. I used to listen to it every night before i went to sleep, and now when i listen to it it sort of makes me feel like when I was 14 or however old i was when that record came out. It's sort of a bummer, but i do enjoy the melancholy side of thing.
@ineffable.me: Me too! I went to a Christmastime rock festival (heh, called the Fez-tival--any of you Philly girls remember Y100?) and sat through Seether, All-American Rejects and freaking Good Charlotte just to watch Coldplay and Zwan (and of course Coldplay was dead last...). Watching Billy and Jimmy (the drummer) rock out for 25 minutes was awesome--they showed those punks who the real musicians were. Also, since GC played the second-to-last set, there was this giant exodus of suburban emo kids before Coldplay came on, and I kept muttering (albeit loudly) "Thanks for coming out, Avril."
@ineffable.me: yeah, it was really cool. i just remember billy and jimmy being so nice and genuinly happy to be there and sign autographs for the fans. james on the other hand, was so over it, you could tell. lol, he always had this sort of "too cool for this planet" vibe.
@HannahBethD: i'm sure i still have mine too, probably in a box somewhere in the garage. i should break it out for old time's sake, now that you guys got me all nostalgic for the pumpkins.
@HannahBethD: Never be afraid of your 90's roots!
@bellethellama: haha, festivals are the worst. I sat through a couple of shitty bands so I could see (international) noise conspiracy a few years ago and man what a shitfest it was. I kept muttering under my breath as well cause everyone was a lame-o.
@AAES: so jealous.
i was really bummed out when i found out about james iha and his douchedom. it ruined a fantasy, for sure.
@ineffable.me: (ew not a sexual fantasy though)
Confession: For about a year, me and my high school BFF thought James Iha was a girl with no boobs. Seriously. This was back before I realized that men, sometimes, do wear makeup.
Cannot wait for "fastest swim suit" EVER. How I miss racing.
sigh. I love M.I.A. but girl sometimes needs to get a grip. I went to her first show in Chicago circa 2005 and she was "too sick" to say hi to her fans afterwards (which consisted literally of like 3 people). I will continue to believe she really was too sick, because I so badly want to love her.
@hortense: Are you me? Except mine were shiny silver Vans.
