New research shows that the presence of a father figure helps female yellow baboons reach full maturity faster and be fertile longer than other baboons. Researchers speculate that this is because father baboons help prevent the harassment of their offspring allowing them better access to food. Unlike in modern human society, reaching full sexual maturity early and reproducing often is considered healthy for baboons. [AP News]
