This just in from the set of Rachael Ray's latest Dunkin Donuts commercial, according to a New York Magazine tipster: "She took one sip of her Dunkin' Donuts coffee, yelled "What is this shit? Get me MY coffee," and would not continue until she was given "her" coffee — i.e., Starbucks." Fascinating. On one hand, I always love it when celebrities shill products they hate. A few years back when Reebok was inking endorsement contracts with pretty much every vaguely hip-hop centric artist on the Hot 100, Jay-Z and Fabulous were always fucking with them, showing up to gigs in Nikes. (Jay-Z pulled the same shit on HP last week — he's a Mac user; aren't we fucking all?) But yeah, on the other hand, slavish devotion to brands, especially brands like Starbucks and Nike but really, any of those stupid little "culty" laptop bag brands or organic shampoo brands you hear people raving about at marketing conferences and in airports in Portland. But then, on the other other hand, coffee is seriously important, maybe more important than politics or philosophy, and with all the discussion of drinking habits on this site I can't believe I'd never posed the question: how do you take your coffee? It's a poll!
Rachel Ray Doesn't Like Dunkin Donuts Coffee Any More Than We Do [New York Megazine]

Comments
Always with an extra shot of espresso. Living in Hawai'i where the coffee was amazing and fresh off the plantation ruined me for life.
One of the things I miss most about New England is Dunkin Donuts. And Friendly's.
In the morning I get a venti Mocha with an extra shot of espresso at starbucks cause its right in front of my office. In the afternoon i might drink some coffee from the machine at work. In the weekends I make coffee at my house which I may drink black or with milk depending on if i went grocery shopping that week or not.
She should be shot just for making the half-brained thing it's funny to say YUM-O.
Oh, natural stimulants, how I miss thee.
I had a nasty Diet Dr. Pepper habit and finally kicked it 6 months ago. The headaches were horrendous.
Now I just get by on Concerta and Pixy Stix.
I can only drink coffee black. If there's any milk or sugar in it, it ruins the flavour for me.
I'm a tea drinker mostly but I'm hardcore. No milk for me.
And if you f*ck with my tea ... I will cut you.
I get my coffee at the cart parked across the street. And I don't know if they lace it with crack, but it's fucking delicious. And only $1.25.
Also, since when is Racheal Ray to classy for Dunkin? I hate her.
The stuff at the bottom of the pot at Wawa is better than
the battery acid served at Starbucks, and half the price!
What's with the Splenda?
@mallie: Friendly's was the only place open after 10 when I was in high school, so we were always there. They make the best grilled cheese. And Reeses' Pieces sundaes, of course.
Me on Rachael Ray: What is this shit?
Ugh. Like Starbuck's is the height of classy coffee, first of all, and second of all, this woman's palette is dead anyway. I don't know how she could even tell the difference.
Oh Rachel Ray, how will you catchphrase yourself out of this pickle?
always either plain and black (usually) or completely foo-foo with whipped cream and everything.
@mallie: Yes! got DD in ny but no Friendly's. So sad. 2 of the greatest exports MA has given us!
Just a regular, drip-brewed cuppa, black/no sugar. Then repeat four times.
Sugar has 15 calories per teaspoon, people. Suck it up and use the real damn thing.
Peet's Peet's and more Peet's.
We received a ridiculously expensive espresso machine and professional grinder as a gift, but we still buy Peet's coffee by the pound.
Otherwise I drink lots of Red Bull and Diet Coke.
Starbucks is poo.
I HATE Ray Ray with a passion. I wish she were forced to drink Dunkin' Donuts sludge forever.
@shananigans: Right on. If you require milk, your not a real tea drinker, and therefore not invited to my tea parties.
Always the bold blend at Starbucks with toffee nut or hazelnut syrup and half and half. Heaven. On. Earth.
But, I won't knock DD coffee. In a pinch, it's done me quite nicely a few times. I have friends who order off of the internet they love it so much.
And I really don't trust a woman who pushes "Deviled Ham Dip on Ritz" as a holiday appetizer to tell me what is and is not shit, thanks very much.
I worked at a coffee roasting company for a year, which completely spoiled me on bad/weak coffee--then worked in an office where I literally brought my own French press, ground beans (daily) and half-and-half to rescue myself from the piss they were calling coffee.
Hah.
I take mine straight to my veins.
Coca-Cola and Adderall, with the occasional Starbucks grande mocha.
I used to be a big Starbucks fan but after reading a thread here a while ago about how they burned their coffee I started tasting that, and it ruined it for me. any other suggestions??
also, my roommate has people ship coffee to her straight from Colombia, I am ruined now and very spoiled
@hortense: I'm so there. Diet Dr Pepper or Diet Cherry Coke for me, please. I can buy a whole 12-pack at Wal-Mart for the price of a Starbucks coffee.
Hand grind it with an old-fashioned hand-cranked burr grinder. Then make it with a french press. Is it laborious? Sure. Does it taste better? Yep.
@hortense: it's called diabetes?
Um...none of the above? Coffee: black. Sometimes coffee-milk instead of breakfast (half coffee/half milk). Sometimes I make it by myself, if the coffee maker's clean (which it often isn't) and sometimes I go to Starbucks because it's the only coffee shop in town that brews it remotely strong enough for my taste.
i dont make coffee. it is my contribution ot the feminist movement.
weekdays i have local coffee shop coffee. weekends starbucks mocha or tea at home.
@the schef: That is an exception. Understood.
I said bad coffee with half-and-half, but actually I make it myself every morning just to save a little cash. And because it's better. But late nights at the theater? Oh MAN give me my cheap convenience store caffeine fix. Mmmm.
Also, Dunkin' Donuts coffee really is super-gross. I'd MUCH rather drink something from the guy with the little stand on the corner than go to DD, where the coffee is always weak and terrible. Unless iced. Iced with a lot of sugar, then you can't tell.
starbucks is shit. they over roast their beans. i live in new england, which still caters to the neighborhood coffee shop, where you can get dark roasts and fair traded coffee.
if coffee is more important than politics, is it pretentious to make the coffee yourself, properly, and sustainably?
That's a seriously ugly outfit. But my hate of the Ray is legendary, I need not elaborate.
I have a friend who works at a local coffee roaster and mails me packets of freshly roasted organic blends. I love him so.
@hortense: I'm odd, I can't taste sugar unless I dump tons in. So it has to be the fake stuff for the sake of my teeth.
@kataroo_kangaroo: Oh shit you had access to that pure Kona coffee, huh? Not the Kona "blend" or "Kona style"... goddammit I'm jealous.
RR was quoted a few years ago saying that she couldn't start her day w/out Starbucks and Jay-Z mentions iTunes in one of his songs off Kingdom Come.
I push a button in the work cafeteria and my coffee comes out FREE. Then i dump all kinds of sugar and flavory (non-refrigerated) creamer in it.
I make, what I lovingly refer to as, a Hobo's Mocha. I take regular coffee and add some Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix to it, and as much cream or powdered creamer as I want, and viola!
@girlreporter: It's horribly addictive, isn't it? The only way I could quit was to just stop buying it. It was rough for the first six weeks.
starbucks coffee is effin' disgusting, oily and bitter thanks to the coal used to roast their coffee. DD is so much better if you make it at home where it hasn't been sitting in the pot for 6+ hours...
I used to live in Kenya where they had the real shit, which has now turned me into a coffee snob.
None of the above. I brew myself a cup of organic, fair-trade coffee in a very mellow, light brew each morning. I add a little bit of nonfat milk and a spoonful of organic raw sugar.
I can't stand either DD/convenience store type coffee or Starbucks burnt, overpriced coffee.
@SinisterRouge:
Starbucks is the classy coffee of choice for people who only use EVOO!
@mbprice: Oooh, hand-cranked! Hardcore. Mine's electric. And loud as shit.
Black, black and Black. With a bit of tea on the side to mix it up a bit.
Uh, Dunkin Donuts actually has good coffee, at least where I'm from. My parents love going there, and they are sort of coffee snobs.
