it's pretty amazing she has almost 800 comments of serious outrage and support in only a few hours. i think a lot of people are going to boycott his band now. maybe he'll be shamed into quitting. also somewhere in the comments she said she posed it up for her mugshot and begged them to let her keep the wristband with the picture on it but they said no :-(

I've spent the last half-hour or so saying "Marty fucking Crandall!?" in the general direction of my screen. My god, of all the people who seemed relatively harmless. Guess you never really do know. Regardless, part of the appeal of the Shins is they've always seemed like relatively decent human beings, so here's hoping they didn't know (cuz she made plenty clear this wasn't the first time), and now that they do, they do the right thing.

I saw a rerun of ANTM yesterday that had him in it. I had no idea he was in a band, I just wondered why she was with such an awkward and unattractive little man.

I still feel sick over this. I've been following her journal for years, and Marty has always been a big part of it, and I just-- felt like reality was broken when she posted this.

I've hated the Shins ever since they were shamelessly name-dropped in Garden State. Ever since then, I've found that dudes who LOVE the Shins are the same dudes who find Garden State to be the BEST MOVIE EVAH.

A lot of people have been advising her to take down the post for legal reasons, but in one of the comments she said that part of the reason for writing the post was so she would have something to go back and look at if she ever thought about taking him back. That almost made me cry.

The trolling on her LJ post is pretty fail, fortunately (at least what I saw of it). I'd hate for her to have to deal with clever trolls at a time like this.

But in three months she'll just be back together with him. And that remarkable feat of foresight has nothing to do with the fact that one of my friends had the exact same thing happen to her three months ago (only it happened in his bedroom rather than a motel room and he was coked out instead of shitfaced) and they were reunited last week. Nope. Nothing to do with that at all!
Such a similar situation though. He also tried to press charges against her because she defended herself.

Never underestimate the power of the struggling "indie" artist to cloud the judgment of snarky cute girls. But I'm with Dvizzl in that I don't think just boycotting the band is the best course of action. Better to write them directly, stating that you won't be buying their albums or attending their shows until they sack the douche.

@haguenite: I've had friends in that situation too! It's frustrating when they become so "in it" that they can't really see what's going on.

I had a roommate who's bf tried to strangle her in her sleep. It was MONTHS before she filed charges and got a restraining order.

It seems like Elyse was in the right to defend herself so more power to her!

Ahh.. Elyse. How I miss having someone like her on ANTM. I think a big reason the show has gotten so bad recently has to do with casting- none of the girls even came close to Elyse. Most of them are/were dumb cliche stock characters (the hood rat, the mail-order bride, the airhead, the lezzie, baby-tyra, et. al.).

This news really saddens me. I've been following Elyse's LJ for years now and I sooo thought she was with this dorky lil' man because he was sweet and witty-- never, in my wildest dreams, would I have imagined this to be the case.

It goes to show, jezzies, that battered women's syndrome is real. (I'm not saying Elyse had/has it, but if he's done this before, it's possible.) To wit: When I was in law school, I had this amazingly smart neighbor (she was #3 in our class). She lived with a nasty scumbag who hit her and lounged around in his boxers all day while she watched their 5 year-old and attended LAW SCHOOL full-time. Oh, and she paid all the bills, of course. She was in my domestic violence law class, so she knew all about what was happening, yet still couldn't let go.

Finally, after graduating, she left his ass (thank god) but now she has to pay him CHILD SUPPORT! Suddenly, now that she's making the big bucks, he wants to watch the kid. Here's the kicker: even though she was 42 when she got pregnant, he said she did it on purpose to 'trap him'!!

What is it with dumpy men thinking they should get women who are way hotter than they are, and then if they are lucky enough to do so, instead of worshiping the ground they walk on, they treat them like shit? GRRRR!!!!

Now THERE'S some insight.

A couple of things:

1. HER blog is probably not an objective statement of fact. There MAY be more to the story than we know, or maybe not. Don't jump to conclusions.

2. The actions of a band member does not reflect upon the rest of the band and it certainly has nothing to do with the quality of music they make. Marty does not write the songs.

3. What is the deal with all the ugly comments? Who gives a shit that he looks like a younger Gene Ween who in turn looks like a younger Mickey Rourke? If a "model" has committed a sin by dating someone for reasons OTHER than looks then isn't she the loser and ste
