It's been over two years since Natalee Holloway disappeared in Aruba, and local authorities claim to have new evidence that could possibly incriminate one of the old suspects. The day after Thanksgiving, Aruban brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe and Netherlands native Joran van der Sloot were all arrested because new evidence had surfaced. Turns out that the evidence in question is an instant message. Allegedly one of the trio said in an internet chat room that Natalee was dead, but the Aruban police won't say which suspect made the web gaffe. [CBS News]

leave natalie alone!!
I thought I just read a headline on CNN the other day about this officially being a cold case?
@leMaldeTete: Ditto. Someone newsy somewhere said they'd closed it.
I wonder what that away message said:
"ROTFL Ded chick in lake. 143 boozin'! OMGWTF"
@meaghan2k: *Instant message
They did just close it. I live in B'ham and the front page of the newspaper yesterday had a huge story about the case officially being closed now.
That girl was probably shark food a long time ago.
Poor family--disproportionate representation of victim media coverage or not.
Somehow it is extra unnerving to lose a loved one in another state or country...
Never mind what everyone else says. What does NANCY GRACE say?!
This case was closed this week. Sad for the family having no closure.
@meaghan2k: PS - can u cvr 4 me? Totes f'd up.
The alleged text message is apparently what led to the 3 being re-arrested last month. They're free again, though, and the case is as "closed" as a murder case gets.
Sayeth the defense attorney: "Unless he finds a body in the bathroom of one of these kids, there's no way in hell they can arrest them anymore."
Callous much? Sometimes I want to punch defense attorneys in the neck for being so smug.
@lfw1031: idk, my bffl jill?
@Monstrosa: I'm going to guess FRY THEM! or some such.
Horrible, just horrible. I never forgot that interview with Joran in which he seemed pissed at Natalie as if she somehow caused this mess.
@AmazonRedheadedUberVixen: Unfortunately, he's right, but...what the fuck? How could you say this knowing that it would go on the public record?
Gah. I hate lawyers, too!
@AmazonRedheadedUberVixen: Really? For me its the other way around.. I usually wanna castrate the prosecutors. EVERY time I watch Law & Order, or CSI, or any of those shows, the prosecutors/investigators smugness always pisses me off. Now granted, they always end up being right (it's tv, or course they solve the case), but in reality we all know that that never happens.
@meaghan2k: dude! ttyl.
Doesn't someone with the name "van der Sloot" pretty much HAVE to be guilty?
@bedazzle: That's not that funny.
@lfw1031: Hey now! I'm a lawyer. Don't hate all of us. We're not all smug, callous assholes.
ANDALUCíA: he said something like if he ever saw her he would tell her he hated her.
How do you close a case? Don't you keep it open hoping to someday get a lead or actually find a murderer?Does this mean if she was killed the killer/s won?
Is it wrong that I think the accused Joran van der Sloot is a total hottie?
@rachystyle: It happens...part of the reason Ted Bundy and Dahmer are so sordid (in part) is 'cuz they were sort of attractive...not like that ugly (sadistic sexual predator) hick John Wayne Gacy!
@DebbieDoesDamage: OMG! Then one of my friends is totally guilty of something... Yeah. Very common name in The Netherlands.
Word now is that the prosecutors are going to make all records public. They're saying they want to do it to see if anyone will recognize anything and come forward with more info (even though it is officially a cold case). I say they want to put the final nail in his coffin. I was in the States just after he'd first been arrested and released, so I understand that the media there have already tried him and found him guilty (way to go Ms Twitty), but personally I still stand behind the whole 'innocent until proven guilty'-thing. Because the Dutch do have that too.
Honestly. clearly she made a bunch of inadvisable decisions but if you can't even bring the defendants to court, it's really time to stop publicizing things. Besides, does it take a genius to determine that she's dead? Everyone knows she's dead. Unless they said something along the line of "I killed her in the library with the candlestick," it's best to leave this alone.
The horrid thin is, you know those smug assholes did it. I hope her ghost hounds them, or that they 'accidentally' drown in their bathtubs. *stabby*
@haguenite: There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures . . . and the Dutch.
JK, of course (I LOVE the Dutch!), but I couldn't resist invoking Nigel Powers.
@warmaiden: Agreed. It is creepy and unnerving to know that they are still out there and will go unpunished...sick.
@AmazonRedheadedUberVixen:
Vincent: You know what they put on French fries in Holland instead of ketchup?
Jules: What?
Vincent: Mayonnaise.
Jules: Goddamn.
Vincent: I've seen 'em do it, man. They fucking drown 'em in that shit.
We get so much love in Hollywood flicks! But mayonnaise on fries really is the only way to go.
@ Reluctant Financier:
Law and Order etc on tv are not how it really works. Those prosecutors would all be disbarred; however, the attitude is fairly accurate. JK.
Most prosecutors and defense attorneys are just trying to do their jobs and do them well.
This defense attorney could very well just be a ginormous asshole. More likely, he is an otherwise competent guy who has the misfortune to have the one time he isn't doing his job well be so public. Because saying what he said is not getting the job done for his client.
I hope the commenter above is right and they are going to release the files in the hopes of getting some better evidence, but I think if someone was going to come forward, they would have by now so I am not holding out much hope.
My heart goes out to her family.
