Still feeling full from Thanksgiving? The New England Journal of Medicine's new issue has a story about an 18-year-old woman who was having stomach pains for five months. A scan of her abdomen revealed a giant hairball, which weighed in at 10 pounds and was 15 inches long, 7 inches wide and 7 inches deep. "On questioning, the patient stated that she had had a habit of eating her hair for many years — a condition called trichophagia," doctors wrote. The woman underwent surgery to remove the mass of black, curly hair, and five days later she was fully recovered and reported that she'd stopped eating her hair. Good idea! [CNN]
