Watching Takashi Miike's Audition is like watching a pot of water boil. It's kinda boring and slow at first, but it begins to develop rapidly, until it's out of control and near explosive. Leading lady Asami (played by former Benetton model Eihi Shiina) is a highly disturbing villain. An aspiring actress with a dark past that involves sexual abuse, she falls in love with middle-aged widower Aoyama, whom she met at a mock audition he held to find a new wife. Unfortunately for him, Asami likes to torture the men who wrong her in the slightest. (One of them lives footless in a burlap bag in her apartment, and is only ever fed her vomit.) When she finds pictures of his deceased wife, she loses it, drugs him, and goes psycho on him with a very sharp wire while shrieking, "Kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri!"
