Today's a historic day for female astronauts. Pamela Melroy, the second-ever woman shuttle commander under the employ of NASA, is navigating the space shuttle launched this morning to meet up with astronaut Peggy Whitson, who is the first-ever female commander of the International Space Station. Says Melroy of this convergence of girl power in the heavens: "The thing that is the best about this is that it happened totally by accident." [Space.com]
