Famed real estate investor and hotelier Leona Helmsley has passed away at the age of 87 due to heart failure. Helmsley reached infamy in the 1980s for being a "boss from hell." (She kept that image up into the new millennium: In 2002 she was sued by a former employee for firing him for being a homosexual. The man was awarded several million dollars in damages.) In 1989, Helmsley was convicted of tax evasion and while she was sentenced to 16 years in prison, she managed to only serve 18 months. She will be missed. By some. [NY Times]
