The French National Institute of Medical Research has just released a study that finds that drinking coffee can slow memory decline. In the study, women who drank more than three cups of coffee a day retained more of their verbal and visual memories over the course of four years, leading researchers to believe that caffeine might block the buildup of proteins that lead to mental decline. (Apparently men and women metabolize coffee differently, so this one is only a benefit for us.) Score! Since this is a, ahem, a French study, we're assuming that next we'll hear that smoking cigarettes will make us better at math. [Reuters]
