'Faggot' - The Truth Revealed.

We enjoyed Ann Coulter's defence to calling John Edwards a 'faggot', and we thought we'd back her up by proving that 'faggot' is indeed just a fun little word that's as shinny and happy as 'bluebells' or 'communist scum'.

So we turned to our friends at Merriam Webster and looked up 'faggot'. At first we breathed a sigh of relief, as it appeard that the word was merely a contemptous expression for women and children. Yay! Oops. Except the second definition stated:

"usually disparaging : a male homosexual".
.

Bummer. But never mind, surely there's somwhere in the world where 'faggot' isn't usually disparaging? We know from personal experience, that the British enjoy a particularly revolting dish of meatballs in grease, and call it faggots.

So, over to the Oxford English Dictionary, where a search on the word came up with this:

noun 1. Brit. a ball of seasoned chopped liver, baked or fried. [YUM!]

2. (US fagot) a bundle of sticks bound together as fuel.

3 N. Amer. informal, derogatory a male homosexual.

Oh dear. Sorry Ann! We were only trying to help.

But if it's any consolation, we also looked up the word 'moron', and it's defined as 'very stupid person'. So at least there's no debate there, eh?
