Today's NY Post reports that the new trend among boutique owners and apparel website operators is to create a shopping experience so exclusive that prospective customers must be vetted before they're allowed to shop. Says the Post's Suzanne Kapner:
At a new Caravan location at 128 E. 91 Street, potential customers must first meet with a stylist "to make sure they are right for the store," said owner Claudine Gumbel.
Those who get the green light are given a phone number that changes every few weeks to call for a private appointment.
This, interestingly, comes from a woman who claims that her store gives back to good causes like Wildlife Works and Keep a Child Alive. Guess they call it Radical Chic for a reason.
