1 Dead After Shooting at Nashville Movie Theater

One person has died after several shots were fired at the Carmine Hickory 8 movie theater just outside Nashville, Tennessee Wednesday afternoon, according to reports. Another victim may have sustained hatchet wounds.

The shooter, who carried a hatchet, gun and two backpacks into an afternoon showing of Mad Max: Fury Road, was shot dead at the theater.

“The officer started at the projection room and started clearing down,” said police spokesperson Don Aaron. “He encountered the gunman. The gunman opened fire on the South Precinct officer. That officer returned his fire, and then backed away out of the theater.”

A SWAT team responded next.

“There was gunfire and the gunman is deceased just inside the movie theater,” Aaron continued. “So we believe the imminent threat has been ended.”

The Associated Press reports:

Video from the scene showed a heavy presence at the theater, with local, state and federal officers setting up a perimeter in the parking lot. A wide area was roped off with yellow police tape, and at least one ambulance was outside the theater. Many officers were heavily armed.
The theater in Antioch is near Global Mall, a shopping center in a middle-class neighborhood.

The shooting comes just two weeks after two women were killed in a movie theater shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana.
